Future of design, games, loyalty and chips in your head
Not directly travel related but great presentation/video in the below embedded player. Carnegie Mellon University Professor, Jesse Schell, dives into a world of game development which will emerge from the popular "Facebook Games" era. Thanks to G4TV. 20 mins long but well worth it for the content and how to give a presentation using powerpoint (pictures not words)

BOOT on MJ bandwagon
I am 37 years old so you are going to have to indulge me. I don't vere away from the business of online travel often. It happens sometimes on Fridays. Most recently I did so for dung beetles, to say I am sorry and to watch in amazement at the battle between a lion, a buffalo and crocodile (ok...and for some muppets over Christmas). I am a child of the 70s and 80s so here is the best live performance I can find of that strange, odd and potentially dangerous man that had a musical talent the likes of which we will never see again. Here he is singing Billie Jean, dancing his magic and a wearing a pre-Frankenstein make over body. Farewell Michael

Baggage container meets airline and square peg does not fit in jet engine hole
What happens if a airline cargo box full of luggage gets stuck inside a jet engine of a 747 aeroplane? Have a look at the below video and find out. I can imagine the exchange
"What do you mean you lost my luggage, where is it?"
"um...well.. sir... it is here at the airport"
"It is, great. I thought it might be in Timbuktu. OK. Can you organise for someone to deliver the luggage to me."
"Not really you see the luggage is in the plane"
"Even better. If it my bag is on the plane can't you just send someone over there to pick it up and bring it to me"
"No sir...sorry...I said 'in the plane' not 'on the plane'"
Direct link to video if embedding not working
hat tip to latimes where I saw the story first

Southwest Airlines Rapping announcement "you will not get that on United Airlines"
It is going to be United Airlines week here at the BOOT. Already had a seat review, prediction of the death for the brand and now a video of a rapping Southwest crew member giving United a hard time (and I have another post up my sleeve before the week is out). Thanks to my mate Chris from San Fran for sending through the video link

Plane landing on water animation with voices - US Airways - 1549
Quote
Tower "which runway would you like in Teterboro"
Airline "we are going to be in the Hudson"
Tower "say again"
(all in the calmest voices imaginable)

This is a must watch animation of the landing of US Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson with the actual verbal exchanges between the tower and the aircraft. Video includes animated Geese. Voices prove that the pilot was/is the calmest man in the world. I have made calls to my wife telling here I will be late for a dinner date that have been more stressful. Can a plane land on water? Yes it can....!

Holiday break and a little entertainment. Back in early January
Dear BOOT readers,
I am going on holidays early this year. Barring a collapse, buyout or killer email that draws me back to the keyboard I will see you back on the blog around Jan 5 2009.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Seasons Greetings, Happy New Year and best you and yours.
I'm having a blast writing this. Hope you are enjoying reading. See you again in 2009.
In the meantime I am reposting an old favourite which has no relationship at all with the business of online travel.

Better late than never to go dancing with Matt
I am about 10 million or so views behind the rest of the blogosphere in posting the dancing Matt video. A reader made contact and insisted I put it up. In case you haven't seen it, it is absolutely fantastic. Surprisingly moving. Can't decide if my favourite is the DMC in Korea, the Huli Wigmen of PNG or zero gravity over Nevada. Watch it
